Righteous Abigail

Abigail is an Old Testament righteous woman mentioned in 1 Samuel 25. She was the wife of the wealthy but ill-tempered Nabal of Carmel. When Nabal rudely refused aid to David and his men, Abigail, without her husband's knowledge, secretly brought them generous provisions and, through her wise words, turned David away from bloodshed. After Nabal's sudden death she became one of David's wives and bore him a son, Chileab. She was taken captive during the Amalekite raid on Ziklag but was freed by David. She is venerated as an example of womanly wisdom, gentleness, and peacemaking.
