Hieromartyr Abraham, Bishop of Arbela (in Persia, modern-day Erbil), suffered during the persecution of Christians under the Persian King Shapur II in the 4th century. When pressed to renounce Christ and worship the sun, he replied: "What madness it would be to abandon the Creator and worship a creature! Is the sun not a creation of my God?" After enduring severe torture and praying for the forgiveness of his tormentors, he was beheaded in the village of Felman.
