Disciple of St. Sergius of Radonezh, founder of four monasteries in the Kostroma region, wonderworker.
Venerable Abraham of Galich (also known as of Chukhloma, of Gorodets — after the monasteries he founded) lived in the 14th century. His birthplace and secular name are unknown. He was originally a monk at the Caves Monastery in Nizhny Novgorod, then joined the Trinity-Sergius Monastery under St. Sergius of Radonezh. With his blessing he withdrew to the Galich (Kostroma) lands, where on the shore of Lake Galich he miraculously found a revealed icon of the Mother of God. He founded four monasteries in the area and reposed in 1375 in a chapel near the last of them, the Gorodets Monastery. He was locally glorified twice, in 1553 and 1621.
