Righteous Abraham and Sarah

Abraham is the Old Testament patriarch and forefather of the Hebrew people, called by the Apostle Paul "the father of all who believe." At God's call he left his native city of Ur of the Chaldees and settled in the land of Canaan together with his wife Sarah and nephew Lot. For his unwavering faith and readiness to sacrifice his only son Isaac, he received God's special blessing to become the father of many nations. Sarah, Abraham's wife, bore their son Isaac in her old age, an event the Apostle Paul cites as an example of the power of faith (Heb. 11:11). The Lord appeared to Abraham and Sarah in the form of three men (angels) at the Oak of Mamre — the scene known as "the Hospitality of Abraham," which became the iconographic basis for depictions of the Holy Trinity, including the celebrated "Trinity" icon of St. Andrei Rublev.
