Martyr Acacius of Cappadocia

† 303/304

Also known as: Акакий Сотник, Акакий Кесарийский

Centurion of the Martisian regiment, martyr who suffered under Emperor Maximian c. 303–304.

Martyr Acacius of Cappadocia was born to a Christian priest's family. Under Emperor Maximian he served as a centurion of the Martisian regiment. During the persecution of Christians he openly confessed his faith before the military commander Firmus, for which he was imprisoned at Perinthus (Heraclea) in Thrace and tortured — torments which, according to tradition, left him unharmed. He died a martyr's death around 303–304.
