Righteous
Righteous Adeodatus
372 — ок. 388
Also known as: Адеодат, сын блж. Августина
Son of Blessed Augustine of Hippo, baptized together with his father at Easter 387, died as a youth.
Adeodatus was the only son of Blessed Augustine of Hippo by his common-law wife, whose name has not survived. He was born in 372 in Carthage. According to his father's testimony in the Confessions, he possessed a remarkably sharp mind. On the night of Easter 387 he was baptized by Bishop Ambrose of Milan together with his father Augustine and Augustine's friend Alypius. He died around 388–389, quite young, shortly after the family returned to Africa. Augustine dedicated the dialogue "De Magistro" (On the Teacher) to his son's memory, portraying Adeodatus as an interlocutor and marveling at the depth of his reasoning.
