Venerable Martyr Adrian of Ondrusovo, in the world Andrei Nikiforovich Zavalishin, came from a noble family. While hunting a deer, he happened upon the cell of St. Alexander of Svir and from then on frequently visited the elder, listening to his teachings and bringing him bread. Leaving the world, he took monastic vows and founded the Ondrusovo Hermitage on the shore of Lake Ladoga, dedicated to the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple. He was killed by robbers in 1550 while returning from Moscow. Two years later he appeared to the monastery's brethren and revealed the location of his grave. His relics became renowned for miracles.
