Martyr
Martyr Aetius of Sebaste
† ок. 320
Also known as: Аэтий
One of the 40 Martyrs of Sebaste — Roman soldiers martyred in Sebaste, Armenia, under Emperor Licinius.
Martyr Aetius was one of the 40 soldiers of the Sebaste legion who suffered martyrdom in 320 in the city of Sebaste (Armenia) under Emperor Licinius. The soldiers refused to sacrifice to pagan gods and were condemned to freeze in an icy lake on a frigid night; having endured until morning, they all gave up their souls to the Lord. They are venerated by the Church together, though each is named individually in the Life.
