Synaxis of all the venerable and God-bearing fathers who shone forth in ascetic struggle on Mount Athos.
The Synaxis of the Athonite Saints is a collective commemoration of all the venerable and God-bearing fathers who labored in asceticism on Mount Athos from antiquity to the present: founders and abbots of Athonite monasteries, hermits, hesychasts, martyrs, and teachers of monasticism. It is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost; some sources also cite a fixed date of 16/29 June. It was established in honor of Athos's spiritual heritage as the heartland of Orthodox monasticism.
