Venerable Martyr Agafia (Krapivnikova) of Vereya

Venerable Martyr Agafia (in the world — Agafia Avivovna Krapivnikova) was born in 1890 in the village of Novosofyino, Shatsk uyezd, Tambov province (now Shatsky District, Ryazan Oblast) to a peasant family. She finished village school and at the age of twenty-one entered the Trinity-Odigitrievsky Zosimova Hermitage in the Vereysky uyezd of Moscow province, where she served as cell-attendant to the abbess, Hegumenia Afanasia (Lepeshkina). After the convent was closed by the atheist authorities, she continued to keep the monastic way of life. On 25 September 1937 she was arrested on charges of participating in a counter-revolutionary organization and was shot that same year. She is glorified among the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church.
