Martyr Agape of Terni

Martyr Agape came from the city of Terni (Umbria, Italy) and was a spiritual disciple of Hieromartyr Valentine, Bishop of Terni. According to the Roman Martyrology, she was beheaded during the persecution of Emperor Aurelian on 15 February 273; her body was buried at a place called "Inter Turres" ("Between the Towers"). In 550 Bishop Anastasius built a church there in her honor, entrusting her relics to a Benedictine monastery; by 1174 the church had fallen into ruin, and her head was translated to Rome, to the Basilica of the Holy Apostles. Veneration of Agape of Terni belongs to the Western (pre-Schism) tradition; no separate commemoration day in Orthodox menologies or an established iconography has been found.
