A noble Roman virgin martyred under Emperor Valerian; her relics were secretly translated by her companions Vassa, Paula, and Agathonica to Sicily, to the city of Mineo.
Martyr Agrippina came from a noble Roman family and from her youth consecrated herself to God, refusing marriage. During the persecution of Emperor Valerian (253–260) she was seized as a Christian and subjected to cruel torture — beatings and confinement in stocks — but remained firm in her confession of Christ and died of her wounds around 262. Her three companions, Vassa, Paula, and Agathonike, secretly transported the martyr's relics to Sicily, where many miracles occurred through them. Saint Agrippina is venerated as the patroness of the Sicilian city of Mineo.
