Venerable Achilas of the Kiev Caves, the Deacon

Venerable Achilas, deacon of the Kiev Caves, loved monastic life from his youth and, renouncing the world, came to the Kiev Caves Monastery, where he took the angelic habit and walked the narrow path of monasticism with great patience, obedience, and humility. He surpassed many ascetics in abstinence: he ate no sweet or cooked food, his usual fare being a single prosphora a week; he spent a long time in seclusion. He labored in the late 13th–15th century. His relics rest in the Far (Theodosius) Caves of the Kiev Caves Lavra.
