Venerable Alexius the Recluse of the Kiev Caves

XIII век

A recluse of the Kiev Caves Monastery (Near Caves), who labored in the 13th century; his memory is kept together with Venerable Sabbas of the Caves, next to whom his relics rest.

Venerable Alexius, recluse of the Caves, labored in the Near Caves of the Kiev Caves Monastery in the 13th century. He spent his life in strict seclusion devoted to unceasing prayer. His relics were found incorrupt and rest in the Near (Anthony's) Caves of the Kiev Caves Lavra next to the relics of Venerable Sabbas of the Caves, which is why Venerable Alexius's memory is kept on the same day as Saint Sabbas — 24 April/7 May. He is also venerated in the Synaxis of the Fathers of the Near Caves (28 September/11 October) and in the Synaxis of All Kiev Caves Wonderworkers (2nd Week of Great Lent, movable).
