Apostle of the Seventy Alphaeus of Capernaum

Holy Apostle of the Seventy Alphaeus came from the Galilean city of Capernaum. He was the father of two of the Twelve Apostles — James son of Alphaeus and the Evangelist Matthew (Levi), the tax collector called by the Lord to service. Alphaeus himself also accompanied the Lord Jesus Christ and was numbered among the seventy disciples sent out to preach. He is venerated together with the Apostle of the Seventy Carpus, a disciple and companion of the Apostle Paul.
