Bishop of the Asia Minor city of Anea (province of Asia), martyred with red-hot iron under Diocletian and Maximian.
Hieromartyr Alvian was Bishop of the city of Anea, located in the Roman province of Asia in Asia Minor, around 304, during the reign of Emperors Diocletian and Maximian, when Asia was governed by Aelianus. Saint Alvian was ordered to sacrifice to idols under threat of death, but he firmly confessed faith in Christ and refused to worship the pagan gods. For this he was tortured with red-hot iron and mercilessly beaten, but the hierarch remained unshaken in his confession of Christ and received a martyr's death.
