Hieromartyr Andronik (Nikolsky), Archbishop of Perm

Hieromartyr Andronik (in the world Vladimir Alexandrovich Nikolsky) was born in 1870. He served as Archbishop of Perm and Kungur. After the revolution he firmly resisted the persecution of the Church, denouncing Bolshevik rule. On the night of 20 June (7 June O.S.) 1918, he was taken from his cell, driven out of the city along the Siberian Highway, forced to dig his own grave, ordered to lie in the earth alive, and shot through the layer of soil covering him. In August 2000 he was glorified for general church veneration among the saints at the Jubilee Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, in the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.
