Bishop of Nicomedia, beheaded under Diocletian and Maximian during a fierce persecution of Christians that followed a fire at the imperial palace in Nicomedia.
Hieromartyr Anthimus, Bishop of Nicomedia, suffered during the persecution of Christians under Emperors Diocletian (284–305) and Maximian (284–305). The persecution intensified sharply after a fire at the imperial palace in Nicomedia: the pagans accused Christians of deliberate arson and unleashed unprecedented cruelty upon them. Hierarch Anthimus was seized and beheaded together with other martyrs — the deacon Theophilus, Dorotheus, Mardonius, the deacon Migdonius, Peter, Indes, Gorgonius, Zeno, the virgin Domna, and Euthymius.
