Martyr Angius of Sebaste

Martyr Angius was one of the forty soldiers of the Sebaste garrison who refused to sacrifice to pagan gods during the persecution of Emperor Licinius. In 320 he was condemned together with the others to execution: the soldiers were stripped and placed for the night in the icy water of Lake Sebaste in Lesser Armenia, while a heated bathhouse was set up on the shore to tempt them into apostasy. Angius, together with the other martyrs, remained steadfast in confessing Christ and received a martyr's death. His name has been preserved among the forty martyrs through the ancient "Testament" composed by the prisoners themselves before their death.
