Martyr Anthia — mother of Hieromartyr Eleutherius, Bishop of Illyricum; beheaded in Rome together with her son for confessing Christ under Emperor Hadrian.
Martyr Anthia was the mother of Hieromartyr Eleutherius, Bishop of Illyricum, who suffered together with his mother and the martyr Corebus the eparch in Rome under Emperor Hadrian (117–138). She did not abandon her son in the hour of his martyrdom, for which she was seized and beheaded together with him. The church commemoration of Eleutherius and Anthia is kept on December 15/28 — the day on which, under Emperor Arcadius (395–408), a church dedicated to them was consecrated in Constantinople. The epithet "of Cilicia" given in the original card is not confirmed by sources — the correct location of her death and veneration is Rome/Illyricum.
