Venerable Anthony Leokhnovsky

Venerable Anthony of Leokhnovo, hegumen — from the Tver boyar family of Veniaminov; he lived as a hermit at the Rublyov Hermitage near Novgorod, then took monastic vows from the hermit Tarasius at Leokhnovo near Staraya Russa, where he established a monastery dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Lord (Leokhnovsky Monastery).
Venerable Anthony of Leokhnovo came from the Tver boyar family of Veniaminov. He lived as a hermit near Novgorod, at the Rublyov Hermitage on the Perekhod River. Around 1556 he moved to join the hermit Tarasius, who lived beyond Lake Ilmen at Leokhnovo near Staraya Russa, and received monastic tonsure from him. In this way a hermitage in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord was established, later named Leokhnovsky Monastery. He reposed around 1611–1613. His memory is kept on October 17/30, as well as in the Synaxis of the Saints of Novgorod and the Synaxis of the Saints of Tver.
