Also known as: Анфуса Мантинийская
Venerable Anthusa, Hegumeness of Mantineon — abbess of a convent of 90 sisters in Paphlagonia; during the iconoclast persecutions of Emperor Constantine Copronymus she refused to renounce icon veneration and was tortured, but escaped execution through a miraculous prophecy about the outcome of the empress's childbirth, and died peacefully in her convent.
Venerable Anthusa was hegumeness of a convent of 90 sisters in Paphlagonia. During the iconoclast persecutions of Emperor Constantine V Copronymus, she refused to renounce the veneration of holy icons, for which she was subjected to cruel torture. At her trial she prophesied to the empress the birth of twins — a boy and a girl — which soon came to pass, after which the saint was released. She died peacefully in her convent. Her memory is kept on July 27/August 9.
