Martyr Antonina of Nicaea suffered for Christ in 302–305 under Emperor Diocletian: she refused to sacrifice to idols, was subjected to terrible torture, spent two years in prison, and was finally drowned in a lake, tied in a sack.
The holy martyr Antonina of Nicaea suffered for Christ in 302–305 in the city of Nicaea (Asia Minor) during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian. For refusing to sacrifice to idols, she was subjected to cruel torture: she was burned on a red-hot skillet, her hands and feet pierced with red-hot rods, after which she was held in prison for two years. The torments did not break the spirit of St. Antonina — she confessed Christ until her death. Finally, the martyr was tied in a sack and drowned in a lake. Her memory is kept on March 1/14.
