Apostle Ampliatus of the Seventy — Bishop of Diospolis, mentioned by Apostle Paul in Romans 16:8 as "beloved in the Lord"; he suffered martyrdom in Odyssopolis at the hands of pagans for preaching Christ.
Apostle Ampliatus of the Seventy is mentioned by St. Paul in the Epistle to the Romans: "Greet Amplias my beloved in the Lord" (Romans 16:8). He was made bishop in the city of Diospolis, where he zealously preached the Gospel. He died a martyr's death in the city of Odyssopolis, killed by pagans (Hellenes) for preaching Christ. His memory is kept on October 31/November 13, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
