Apostle Apelles of the Seventy — a Jew from Alexandria, a co-worker of Apostle Paul (mentioned in Romans 16:10), Bishop of Smyrna.
Apostle Apelles of the Seventy was a Jew from Alexandria and a co-worker of Apostle Paul, who mentions him in the Epistle to the Romans: "Greet Apelles, approved in Christ" (Romans 16:10). He was appointed Bishop of the city of Smyrna, where he zealously preached the Gospel. His memory is kept on October 31/November 13 together with the Apostles Stachys, Ampliatus, Urban, Narcissus, and Aristobulus, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
