Apostle Apollos of the Seventy — an eloquent Jew from Alexandria who received an excellent education; he labored in Corinth, bringing many to faith in Christ; he later became bishop in Caesarea (according to other sources, in Smyrna).
Apostle Apollos of the Seventy lived in the 1st century, was a native of Alexandria, and received an excellent education, being noted for his eloquence and deep knowledge of Scripture (Acts 18:24-28). He labored in Corinth, where he brought many to Christ and strengthened those who already believed; Apostle Paul mentions him several times in 1 Corinthians. Toward the end of his life he preached in Crete and was made bishop in Caesarea (according to other sources, in Smyrna). His memory is kept on March 30/April 12, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
