Apostle Archippus of the Seventy, Bishop of Colossae — a co-worker of Apostle Paul, mentioned in the Epistle to the Colossians (4:17) and the Epistle to Philemon (1:2); he was torn apart by an enraged pagan mob on the road.
Apostle Archippus of the Seventy was made bishop of the city of Colossae. He is mentioned by Apostle Paul in the Epistle to the Colossians ("Say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it," Col. 4:17) and in the Epistle to Philemon, which is also addressed to him and Apphia. Together with Apostle Philemon, Bishop of Gaza, and the Equal-to-the-Apostles Martyr Apphia, he labored greatly in spreading the Christian faith. He was martyred, torn apart by an enraged pagan mob on the road (according to tradition, stoned and beaten with clubs). His memory is kept on February 19/March 4 together with Philemon and Apphia, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
