Apostle Aristarchus of the Seventy — a Macedonian from Thessalonica, a companion of Apostle Paul on his journeys (Acts 19:29, 27:2), later Bishop of the Syrian city of Apamea; he died around the year 67 in Rome.
Apostle Aristarchus of the Seventy was a native of Thessalonica (Macedonia). He accompanied Apostle Paul during his third missionary journey — he was seized together with him during the riot in Ephesus (Acts 19:29), and later accompanied him on the dangerous sea voyage to Rome (Acts 27:2). Apostle Paul calls him his "fellow laborer" and "fellow prisoner" (Col. 4:10, Philemon 1:24). He was later made Bishop of the Syrian city of Apamea. He died around the year 67 in Rome. His memory is kept on April 15/28 and September 27/October 10, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
