Apostle Carpus of the Seventy, Bishop of Beroea (Macedonia) — a disciple and companion of Apostle Paul who delivered his epistles; he later preached on Crete, converting pagans and rebuking Jews, for which he was killed.
Apostle Carpus of the Seventy came from Asia Minor, probably from the city of Beroea, where he was ordained bishop. He was a disciple and companion of Apostle Paul, accompanying him and delivering his letters and epistles to the churches. He became a bishop in Thrace and went to preach Christianity to the inhabitants of the island of Crete, converting pagans to the faith and rebuking Jews for their unbelief — for which he was brutally killed. His memory is kept on May 26/June 8 together with the Apostle of the Seventy Alphaeus, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
