Apostle Cleopas of the Seventy — one of the two disciples to whom the risen Christ appeared on the road to the village of Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35); he was martyred by Jews in his own house in Emmaus for confessing faith in Christ.
Apostle Cleopas of the Seventy was one of the two disciples walking to the village of Emmaus on the day of the Resurrection, to whom the risen Lord appeared on the road and was recognized by them in the breaking of bread (Luke 24:13-35). According to church tradition, St. Cleopas was martyred by Jews in Emmaus, in the very house where the recognition of the Savior took place. His memory is kept on October 30/November 12 together with the Apostles of the Seventy Tertius, Mark, and Justus, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
