Apostle Dionysius the Areopagite

Hieromartyr Dionysius the Areopagite — a member of the Athenian Areopagus (the supreme court), converted by Apostle Paul's sermon on the Areopagus (Acts 17:34); he accompanied Paul in preaching for three years and was made Bishop of Athens by him; he was martyred.
Hieromartyr Dionysius was a distinguished Athenian, a member of the Areopagus — the supreme court of Athens. He believed in Christ upon hearing Apostle Paul's sermon on the Areopagus (Acts 17:34) and was baptized together with his wife Damaris. For three years he assisted Apostle Paul in preaching the Gospel, after which he was made Bishop of Athens by him. According to tradition, he was martyred, beheaded by the sword. His memory is kept on October 3/16, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
