Apostle Gaius of the Seventy, Bishop of Ephesus — baptized by Apostle Paul together with Crispus and "the household of Stephanas"; successor to Apostle Timothy on the see of Ephesus.
Apostle Gaius of the Seventy was baptized by Apostle Paul together with Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, and "the household of Stephanas" (1 Corinthians 1:14-16). He became a close disciple and co-worker of Apostle Paul, sharing in his labors of preaching the Gospel. He was made Bishop of Ephesus, succeeding Apostle Timothy on this see. His memory is kept on November 5/18 together with the Apostles of the Seventy Patrobas, Linus, Philologus, and Hermas, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
