Apostle Hermes of the Seventy — mentioned by Apostle Paul in the Epistle to the Romans (16:14) separately from his namesake Hermas ("Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes..."); in the Russian Church he is often commemorated together with Apostle Hermas on the same day.
Apostle Hermes of the Seventy is mentioned by Apostle Paul in the Epistle to the Romans among the co-workers he greets: "Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren which are with them" (Romans 16:14) — as a name distinct from "Hermas" within the same verse. He shared in Apostle Paul's labors of preaching the Gospel. In church tradition and calendar practice, the memory of Hermes is often combined with that of his namesake, Apostle Hermas (see the apostle_hermas card), under the shared date of November 5/18. His memory is kept on November 5/18, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
