Apostle Lucius of Cyrene, Bishop of Laodicea in Syria — mentioned by Apostle Paul in the Epistle to the Romans among the Christians he greets (Romans 16:21); a native of Cyrene (North Africa).
Apostle Lucius of the Seventy lived in the 1st century and was a native of Cyrene (North Africa). Apostle Paul mentions his name in the Epistle to the Romans among other Christians he greets: "Timotheus my workfellow, and Lucius... my kinsmen, salute you" (Romans 16:21). He was made bishop in Laodicea of Syria, once the chief city of Phrygia. According to the iconographic manual, he is depicted as a grey-haired elder with a beard like that of the Evangelist Mark. His memory is kept on September 10/23, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
