Apostle Manaen of the Seventy — the foster-brother (raised together) of the tetrarch Herod Antipas, one of the prophets and teachers of the Church of Antioch (Acts 13:1), who laid hands on and sent forth the Apostles Barnabas and Saul (Paul).
Apostle Manaen of the Seventy is mentioned in the Acts of the Holy Apostles among the prophets and teachers of the Church of Antioch: "Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul" (Acts 13:1). He was raised together with Herod Antipas, but unlike him, came to believe in Christ. Together with the other prophets and teachers of the Church of Antioch, moved by the Holy Spirit, he laid hands on Barnabas and Saul, sending them on their first missionary journey. According to tradition, he died peacefully, probably in Antioch of Syria. His memory is kept on May 30/June 12, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
