Apostle Prochorus of the Seventy was one of the seven deacons (Acts 6:5); companion of Apostle Peter and later Apostle John the Theologian, sharing his exile on Patmos; according to tradition, the first Bishop of Nicomedia who wrote down the Apocalypse as dictated by John.
Apostle Prochorus of the Seventy was one of the seven deacons chosen to serve those in need (Acts 6:5), together with Stephen, Philip, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas. He first accompanied Apostle Peter, and after the Dormition of the Theotokos became a companion of Apostle John the Theologian, sharing his exile on the island of Patmos, where tradition holds he wrote down the Book of Revelation as dictated by John. He was made the first Bishop of Nicomedia and was martyred for Christ. The Church honors his memory together with Apostles Nicanor, Timon, and Parmenas on July 28/August 10, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
