Hieromartyr Simeon, son of Cleopas, a kinsman of the Lord according to the flesh, the second Bishop of the Jerusalem Church after Apostle James; he governed the church for about 40 years and was crucified at the age of 120 under Emperor Trajan (c. 107 AD).
Apostle Simeon of the Seventy, son of Cleopas (brother of the Righteous Joseph the Betrothed), was a kinsman of the Lord according to the flesh. In his mature years he witnessed the miracles of Jesus Christ, believed in Him, and became one of the Seventy Apostles. After the martyrdom of Apostle James, the Lord's brother and first Bishop of Jerusalem (d. 63), Christians elected Simeon in his place. He governed the Jerusalem Church for about 40 years, laboring greatly in preaching the Gospel. As a descendant of King David and a kinsman of Christ, in 107 AD, under Emperor Trajan, after prolonged torture he was crucified at the age of 120. His main commemoration is kept on April 27/May 10; also January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
