Apostle Titus of the Seventy, Bishop of Crete — a native of Crete converted by Apostle Paul, his closest companion and addressee of the Epistle to Titus; made the first Bishop of Crete by Apostle Paul; he died peacefully at a great age (94).
Apostle Titus of the Seventy, a native of the island of Crete, was converted to Christianity by Apostle Paul and personally baptized by him. He became one of Paul's closest disciples and constant companions on his missionary journeys, carrying out important assignments (including matters related to the collection for the Jerusalem church, 2 Cor. 8:6, 16-24). Apostle Paul addressed a personal Pastoral Epistle to him — the Epistle to Titus — instructing him in the ordering of church life on Crete. He was made the first Bishop of Crete by Apostle Paul, wisely governed his flock, converted many pagans to Christ, and became renowned for his missionary labors and miracles. He died peacefully at a great age of 94. His memory is kept on August 25/September 7, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
