Hieromartyr Urban, Apostle of the Seventy, Bishop of Macedonia — a co-worker of Apostle Paul (Romans 16:9), ordained bishop by Andrew the First-Called; he was killed by Jews and pagan Greeks for preaching the Gospel and destroying pagan temples.
Apostle Urban of the Seventy is mentioned by Apostle Paul in the Epistle to the Romans: "Salute Urbane, our helper in Christ, and Stachys my beloved" (Romans 16:9). According to church tradition, he was ordained bishop by Andrew the First-Called and sent to minister in Macedonia. He zealously preached the Gospel and destroyed pagan temples, for which he was killed by an enraged crowd of Jews and pagan Greeks, becoming a martyr. His memory is kept on October 31/November 13 together with the Apostles Stachys, Amplias, Narcissus, Apelles, and Aristobulus, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
