Martyr Aquilina the Younger of Sinope

Martyr Aquilina the Younger suffered for Christ around 310 AD in the city of Sinope on the southern shore of the Black Sea, during the reign of Emperor Maximian (305-311). When the deacon Rufinus was imprisoned for confessing the Christian faith, Aquilina began caring for him, for which she herself was taken into custody. In prison, by their example and miracles, they converted 200 soldiers guarding the prison to Christ. All together — the deacon Rufinus, the martyr Aquilina, and the 200 converted soldiers — were beheaded. She is distinct from the martyr of the same name, Aquilina the Elder of Byblos (Phoenicia, d. c. 293) — a different saint who suffered in a different era and city (see aquilina_of_byblos). Her memory is kept on April 7/20.
