Righteous Arcady of Novy Torg and Vyazma — a young companion and cell-attendant of Venerable Ephraim of Novy Torg, founder of the Boris and Gleb Monastery in Torzhok; he led a strict ascetic life while remaining a layman, distinguished by obedience and meekness; venerated under a double toponym for the places of his labors — Vyazma and Novy Torg.
Righteous Arcady labored in the 11th century as a disciple and cell-attendant of Venerable Ephraim, archimandrite of the Boris and Gleb Monastery in the city of Novy Torg (Torzhok). He attained a high degree of spiritual perfection through complete obedience to his mentor, leading a strict ascetic life while remaining a layman, without taking monastic vows. He is venerated by the Church under a double toponym — of Novy Torg and of Vyazma — for the places associated with his labors. His relics were found and translated in 1677. His memory is kept on July 11/24 (finding and translation of relics), as well as December 13/26 in the Synaxis of Smolensk and Tver Saints.
