Hieromartyr Aristion, Bishop of Alexandria Minor (Cilicia) — a native of Apamea, baptized by St. Anthony the Great at the age of 10, second Bishop of Alexandria Minor (modern İskenderun, Turkey); condemned to be burned by the city's ruler for preaching about the crucified and risen Christ.
Hieromartyr Aristion was a native of the city of Apamea. At the age of ten he was baptized by St. Anthony the Great himself. He was later chosen as the second Bishop of Alexandria Minor (Cilicia) — a city situated on the site of modern-day İskenderun, Turkey. Through his preaching, the hierarch instructed his flock about Christ, His saving sufferings, death, and Resurrection, and taught about the transience and fleeting nature of all earthly things. Learning of the strong influence of the hierarch's preaching on the minds and hearts of the people, the city's ruler ordered him brought in for questioning. Standing before the ruler, Bishop Aristion fearlessly confessed Christ as the true God, for which he was condemned to be burned and was martyred, valiantly bearing witness to his faith. His memory is kept on September 3/16.
