Hieromartyr Aristoclius, Presbyter of Salamis (Cyprus) — a cathedral presbyter from the city of Tamasos in Cyprus; during the persecution of Maximian Galerius he hid in a mountain cave, was miraculously called by the Lord to return and suffer for Christ; he was martyred together with the deacon Demetrian and the reader Athanasius around 306 AD.
Hieromartyr Aristoclius, a Cypriot from the city of Tamasos, was a cathedral presbyter. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Maximian Galerius (305-311), he became afraid of the impending torments, left the city, and hid in a mountain cave. Once, during prayer, a heavenly light shone upon him, and he heard the voice of the Lord commanding him to return to the island of Cyprus and suffer for Christ. Obeying this command, St. Aristoclius returned, openly confessed his faith, and together with the deacon Demetrian and the reader Athanasius was martyred around 306 AD. The Church of Cyprus especially honors him as one of its ancient martyrs. According to the calendar of the Russian Orthodox Church his memory is kept on June 20/July 3; in the Cypriot and Greek Churches, on June 23.
