Hierarch
Hierarch Arsenius, Bishop of Tver
†2 марта 1409
Hierarch Arsenius, Bishop of Tver — shepherd of the Tver see (1390-1409), founder of the Zheltikov Dormition Monastery, editor of one of the early (Arsenius) redactions of the Kiev Caves Paterikon; glorified at the Council of 1547.
Hierarch Arsenius governed the Tver diocese from 1390 to 1409. He labored greatly for the organization of the diocese: several cathedrals were built and consecrated under him; he founded the Zheltikov Dormition Monastery on the Tmaka River near Tver, where he erected a church in honor of Venerables Anthony and Theodosius of the Caves (1394) and a stone Dormition Cathedral (1406). He is known as the editor of one of the early redactions of the Kiev Caves Paterikon (the "Arsenius redaction"), which played an important role in preserving the lives of the Caves ascetics. He reposed on March 2, 1409/1410, and was buried in the Zheltikov Monastery he had founded. In 1483 his incorrupt relics were found. The nationwide glorification of Hierarch Arsenius took place at the Council of Macarius in 1547. His memory is kept on March 2/15 (day of repose), as well as on the first Sunday after June 29 in the Synaxis of Tver Saints.
