Martyr Artema of Cyzicus — one of the Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus (Theognis, Rufus, Antipater, Theostichus, Artema, Magnus, Theodotus, Thaumasius, and Philemon), who were martyred for Christ in the city of Cyzicus (Asia Minor) at the end of the 3rd century.
Martyr Artema is one of Nine Martyrs who were killed for Christ in the city of Cyzicus on the coast of the Sea of Marmara in Asia Minor, at the end of the 3rd century. The saints came from different places and walks of life: among them were young men, such as St. Antipater, and elderly men, such as St. Rufus; there were soldiers, farmers, townspeople, and clergy. All of them preached the Christian faith to the inhabitants of Cyzicus, for which they were seized and, after cruel torture, beheaded. Their relics were later gathered in a single church, where numerous healings took place. The memory of the Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus, including Martyr Artema, is kept on April 29/May 12.
