Martyr
Martyr Авделай Селевкийский
†344
Hieromartyr Avdelas of Seleucia, presbyter — martyred together with Hieromartyr Symeon, Bishop of Persia, and the presbyter Ananias during the persecution of Christians by the Persian King Shapur II; beheaded in 344.
Hieromartyr Avdelas was a presbyter and was martyred for Christ together with Hieromartyr Symeon, Bishop of Persia (Seleucia-Ctesiphon), and the presbyter Ananias during the cruel persecution of Christians raised by the Persian King Shapur II (310-381). St. Symeon, together with his companions, was brought to trial in iron chains as a supposed enemy of the Persian kingdom, accused of secret dealings with the Roman Empire. Refusing to worship the sun and renounce Christ, the hieromartyrs Symeon, Avdelas, and Ananias were beheaded in 344. Their memory is kept on April 17/30.
