Hierarch Aventinus, Bishop of Chartres — a saint of the era of the undivided Church, born in the city of Châteaudun (France); he took part in the Council of Aurelianum (Orléans) in 511.

Hierarch Aventinus was born in the city of Châteaudun in France. He was made Bishop of Chartres. In 511 he took part in the Council convened at Aurelianum (modern Orléans) by Clovis I, King of the Franks — one of the most important councils of early French Christianity, which established the order of church life in the Merovingian kingdom. He died in 528. As a saint of the era of the undivided Church (before 1054), he is also venerated in Orthodoxy. His memory in the Western tradition is kept on February 4.
