Righteous Azariah

Prophet Azariah, son of Oded — an Old Testament prophet who prophesied in the kingdom of Judah during the reign of the pious King Asa; he urged the king and people to return to true worship of God, leading to religious reform and the destruction of idols.
Prophet Azariah, son of Oded, lived in the kingdom of Judah in the 9th century BC, during the reign of the pious King Asa. When the Spirit of God came upon Azariah, he went out to meet King Asa returning victorious and declared to him a prophetic word: "The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you" (2 Chronicles 15:2). This prophecy prompted King Asa and all the people of Judah and Benjamin to enter into a covenant of faithfulness to the Lord, destroying idols and the abominations of pagan worship throughout the land, including the territories of captured cities of the tribe of Ephraim. For this religious renewal the land was rewarded with a long peace. His memory is kept on February 3/16.
