Martyr Bibiana (Vivian) of Rome

Martyr Bibiana came from a noble Roman Christian family: her father, Senator Faustus, and mother Dafrosa, as well as her sister Demetria, also died as martyrs for the faith. She was martyred during the reign of Emperor Julian the Apostate (Flavius Claudius Julianus), who attempted to revive paganism and persecuted Christians. She was seized and brought to trial before the governor Apronianus, who, despite her young age, subjected the holy virgin to prolonged and cruel torture: she was bound to a pillar and beaten with whips, and then with scourges tipped with sharp metal points. She remained unshaken in her confession of Christ until death. In the Western tradition her memory is kept on December 2; a separate confirmation of her feast day in Orthodox liturgical sources was not found in the course of this research.
