Blessed Domna of Tomsk (Domna Karpovna Slepchenko), Fool for Christ — born in the early 19th century to a noble family in the Poltava region; orphaned young, she secretly left home to preserve her virginity and take up the feat of wandering, settling in Tomsk, where she acquired the gift of tearful prayer and clairvoyance; she died in 1872.
Blessed Domna, born Domna Karpovna Slepchenko, was born in the early 19th century into a noble family in the Poltava region. Orphaned young, she was raised in her aunt's home and received an excellent education, speaking several languages fluently. Wishing to preserve her virginity for the Lord's sake, she secretly left home, changed into simple clothing, and set off as a wanderer to holy places. Settling in Tomsk, she took up the feat of foolishness: from morning until night she wandered the streets of the city accompanied by homeless cats and dogs, singing spiritual songs, concealing her ascetic labors, and loving to withdraw into churches. She was granted by God the gift of tearful prayer and clairvoyance. She died in Tomsk in 1872. Her memory is kept on December 16 (day of repose) locally, and also on June 10 within the Synaxis of the Saints of Siberia.
